Christopher R. Benfield was born in Taylorsville, North Carolina, in September 1971. He lived in the nearby town of Hiddenite and attended Hiddenite Elementary School and East Alexander Middle School. In May 1989, Christopher graduated from Alexander Central High School.
Christopher was saved as an eleven-year-old boy and was baptized into Christian fellowship at Bethel Baptist Church in Taylorsville. In July 1995, he was ordained to serve as a deacon at Bethel and served until he was called to his first church. On December 28, 2003, Christopher announced his call into gospel ministry. He was ordained into the gospel ministry on July 24, 2005. Mr. Benfield assumed his first pastorate at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Hiddenite, North Carolina in September 2005, and served there until June 2009. He was called to Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Mount Airy, North Carolina in May 2010, serving there until March 2020. On April 26, 2020, Christopher began serving as senior pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Boonville, NC.
Christopher received a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from the West Lenoir Baptist School of Ministry in 2007 and his Master of Divinity Degree in 2009 from West Lenoir. He received his Doctor of Ministry from Andersonville Theological Seminary in 2012. He studied at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Biblical Preaching degree at Carolina University.
Christopher and his wife Tanya have been married since 1990 and have two daughters, Makayla and Malinda, and a granddaughter, Ruthie.
