Matthew 5:6
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
What a profound truth our Lord reveals in this simple statement. Clearly He is not speaking of a physical hunger or thirst, but hungering and thirsting for His righteousness.
I fear that many today are filled, in that they do not hunger, but they are not filled with the righteousness of Christ. Our world has become so busy and active that few ever take the time to feed from the Word of God. We need to develop a real appetite for the things of God. We need a renewed passion and desire to serve the Lord and fellowship with Him. If we didn't eat physically for several days we would surely perish. Many are so malnourished spiritually, that they are practically dead.
As we consider what occupies our time, where does the Lord rank in our list of priorities and "must do's" for the day? Are we really taking the time to seek Him and learn of Him or are we merely getting a little "snack" on occasion. I pray that we as God's people will earnestly seek Him in this difficult time. If we have ever needed the strength of God, we need it today!
If you are hungry today, seek the Lord and you shall be filled. Spend some time in the Scriptures and in prayer and feed from the Master's table!
