I have thought much lately about the glorious privilege that we have to attend the Lord's house freely. We are richly blessed in America! We can worship the Lord as we please and when we please. We need not worry about our government seeking to persecute or harm us, at least not yet, for our decision to worship the Lord. Even though we all have this profound freedom, some still view their attendance at the house of God as a burden rather than a blessing. I am glad that I have the opportunity to worship my Lord with His people and I am looking forward to being in my place at Fellowship tomorrow.
Consider the desire of David when he pondered the Lord's house. Psalm 122:1 - I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. Does that reflect your attitude about attending the house of the Lord? If not, it should. We ought to be glad for the opportunity to attend the house of the Lord.
If the Lord has blessed you with a place of service, thank Him for it, and do your best to prepare for the responsibilities you have. If you are a Sunday School teacher, take the time to pray and prepare your lesson. Then go into that class tomorrow with all the assurance that God gives. Get a word from Him in your study time and share that word with those whom you are privileged to teach.
Preachers we need to do the same. If we are not moved by what we have studied, how can we expect our congregations to be moved when it is preached? I know that all services are different and the response is varied. I just want to remind us that it is not our responsibility to bring conviction; that is the work of the Holy Spirit. Get a word from the Lord today, study it, meditate upon it, and prepare to preach it! Examine your heart and life to ensure that it is clean and step into that pulpit tomorrow clothed in the cloak of your calling. Preach the Word of God will humility, compassion, and boldness! Give them what God has given you and leave the results to Him. You may not see what you thought or desired, but I know that God will be honored by your faithfulness and He will honor you for it.
I hope we all have a blessed day in the house of God tomorrow, one in which the Savior is exalted above all else, believers are encouraged, and lost sinners are pointed toward Calvary!
